
Saudi Green Initiative Project 2024
Project Overview
UNCCD COP16 in Riyadh united leaders from governments, the private sector, civil society, and global stakeholders to accelerate progress in sustainable land management. Approximately 24,638 participants in the public “Green Zone” and 20,576 in the official “Blue Zone,” including 141 ministers and vice ministers descended on Riyadh between the 2nd – 13th December 2024 to mark a turning point Coinciding with Riyadh’s hosting of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16), Greening Arabia 2024 – Green Zone was organized by the National Center for Vegetation Cover (NCVC) as part of the Kingdom’s broader commitment to addressing desertification, land degradation, and drought at a global scale. As part of this initiative, the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) participated in COP16 with a dedicated presence in the Green Zone, highlighting the Kingdom’s environmental leadership under the theme “Promoting a Culture of Environmental Stewardship.”
